    Beannacht / Blessing
    by John O’Donohue

    On the day when
    the weight deadens
    on your shoulders
    and you stumble,
    may the clay dance
    to balance you.
    And when your eyes
    freeze behind
    the grey window
    and the ghost of loss
    gets in to you,
    may a flock of colours,
    indigo, red, green,
    and azure blue
    come to awaken in you
    a meadow of delight.

    When the canvas frays
    in the currach of thought
    and a stain of ocean
    blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
    a path of yellow moonlight
    to bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
    And so may a slow
    wind work these words
    of love around you,
    an invisible cloak
    to mind your life.

Ann, Thank you for this beautiful poem. I have been inspired by John O’Donohue’s words in the past but never heard this poem. I can see how your bowl could be the inspiration for this beautiful sentiment.

When I read Lynda’s offer of the opportunity to buy one’s Patra Vessel after it had completed its journey and returned to her, my first response was “no way”. As beautiful as is Vessel #7 and as much as I’ve enjoyed having it in my life for a time, it seemed that to own it was contrary to the intent of the experience. Now I have another notion. If I am able to make a gift of cash in order for Vessel #7 to return to me, then my intent will be to send it on another journey, traveling to another of my friends and then onward to who knows where. . . . with the idea that it will return to me every 12 to 18 months. At that time I would have a small dinner party for all who have enjoyed it. And then we would send it on its way again, making its own lovely connections in the world. We shall see how these multiple journeys unfold.

I was excited to read this great idea Leah writes about for purchasing the Patra vessel. In this way the Patra will continue its journey, and unite and connect her own growing community of people in the passage. Thank you for posting your plan!

Though at first purchasing a vessel may seem antithetic to the intent of the project, I add that in this way its gifting continues onward with two worthy organizations: Save the Children and the Museum of Glass as they serve deserving communities. The cycle moves onward and is much appreciated on all levels.
